Hello my Indian ( or should I say Bihari, UPite, Bengali, Tamil, Kannad etc. ) friend!
My Name is G R Kartikey (u must be thinking that yours truely is from a South Indian state), and I am not from any particular state of India because of the following reasons.
I was born in Bokaro Steel City in 1984 (then a small industrial township in Bihar), for 16 long years I lived in the same state, till one day the Indian Govt. decided to name this region as Jharkhand. One fine day the state govt. says that people ( their decendants) who had been registered in the khatiyana of 1932 will only be the DOMICILE RESIDENT OF JHARKHAND.
By 2003 I needed a domicile certificate from Bihar to appear in Bihar Engg. Entrance Exam (again an irony as I am a true blue Bihari), which I couldn't get, since I was a resident of Bokaro that is now in Jharkhand. This inspite of me living in a place that was once in Bihar, my paternal roots are in Dist. Siwan( rem. Shahbuddin) and have most of them settled in Muzaffarpur (famous for litchies). That was my luck (turned down from my 2 states).
Guess what, I even got nominated for the Jharkhand Governor's award, for an achievment in the royal state of Rajasthan and the holy city of Ajmer, a state which doesn't recognize me as a domicile.
By the way I should also mention I can speak reasonably fluent Bangla to make a few people believe me in being from the land of Tagore.
I finally landed up in MP to pursue Engineering, that takes the state count to 3 ( or should i say 8 - 4 south Indian, Bihar, Jharkhand, WB and MP). After BE I got a job in Mumbai (and there goes the inspiration of writing this), which took the state count to 9. But no I am not a marathi manoos, even though I try to understand Marathi and even reply in Marathi monosyllables.
Just forgot to add that in between I got training while residing in the state of UP, state count up to 9 or 4? That too where in I could access mobile networks of 3 states UP / NCR / Haryana.
I have a question to all residents of this country, am I an Indian or a Bihari? a Jharkhandi? or Bengali? or a Tamilian? or a Bhopali? or a Mumbaikar? One fine day I may be harassed on the streets of the financial Capital of India because I come from Bihar(ironically that state doesn't recognize me as a domicile).
